Feasibility study, detailed design and supervision of construction for the rehabilitation of 222km of Road N1: between Namiolo and MetoroinCabo Delgado and Nampula Provinces of Mozambique. Financed by Millenium Challenge Corporation

Details of Services provided by SW included:

  • Phase 1-Feasibility Study Environmental and Social Impact Assessment shall require the completion of a feasibility study and an environmental and social impact assessment, including a resettlement scoping study.
  • Phase 2- Detailed Design and RAP will provide for the detailed design of the rehabilitation/upgrading measures and the development of the resettlement action plan (RAP) based on the results of Phase 1.
  • Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) Implementation; Based on the RAP prepared in Phase 1 & 2 over a 1000 families were resettled and compensated for lost land, residence, commercial activities, plants and crops.
  • Phase 3: Construction Supervision and Post contract Services

Supervision of the Rehabilitation of Highway N1 from XaiXai to Chissibuca (96 km) in Gaza and Inhambane Provinces of Mozambique. Funded by the World Bank

Details of Services provided by SW included:

  • Supervision of construction including certifying payment, quality control, preperation of reports, V.Os and overal contract management;

Technical Assistance to Department of Public Works (DPOPH) for the Maintenance, Design and Construction Supervision of Bridges in Zambezia Province, Mozambique. Funded by the EU

Service was provided by SW included:

  • Capacity building project to identify and train emergent local contractors in all aspects of contracting labour-based construction and maintenance of bridges.
  • Training of regional roads department staff in contract administration and construction supervision.
  • Detailed engineering design of bridges, roads and drainage structures;

Technical Assistance for the Management and Construction Supervision of roads and bridges to the Department of Maintenance at National Roads Administration (ANE) in three separate contracts for Zambezia, Sofala and Manica Provinces of Mozambique.

  • Road condition surveys and road maintenance schedules for the 10,284 Km provincial road network;
  • Detailed engineering design of roads and small drainage structures;Inspection of drainage structures and preparation of repair proposals;
  • Preparation of provincial budget and action plan for roads and bridges maintenance;
  • Supervision of construction;

Technical Assistance to build capacity and institutional strengthening of Roads Authority, Road Fund, Materials Laboratory and Road Traffic Agency of Malawi

Details of Services provided by SW included:

  • Strengthened leadership in the Roads Authority;
  • Enhanced Asset management through strenghtening the Roads Fund, Road Traffic Agency and the Materials Laboratory;
  • Improved private sector participation in the roads sector and integrated training for both public and private sector.

Feasibility Studies and Detailed Design and Tender Documentantion for Chapananga Bridge on S136; Malawi

Details of Services provided by SW included:

  • Feasibility studies to identify the most appropriate location of the proposed bridge.
  • Hydrological study of the catchment area and hydraulics study of the proposed structure.
  • Detailed Engineering Design for the proposed structure and production of drawings.

Design and construction services of the Adwa – Adigrat – Shire Road consisting of the upgrading of the existing gravel road to a two lane asphalt surfaced road with a 7-metre carriage-way width and 1.5-metre shoulders over the existing length of 192 kms, divided into two construction contracts. Ethiopia

  • Detailed engineering review of 192 kms of road and bridge upgrading designs
  • Construction supervision and contract administration.

Feasibility Study, Detailed Design and Construction Supervision of the dualisation of Kampala – Jinja Road; Uganda

Details of Services provided by SW included:

  • Feasibility study, including consideration of alternative routes and pavement options
  • Detailed engineering design for the approved option; including all necessary engineering surveys and data analysis, cost estimation and tender preparation
  • Construction supervision and contract administration.

Feasibility studies fo the upgrading existing 80 km long road from Addis to Nazareth Road divided into 6 lane and 8 lane freeway standards. Ethiopia

  • Detailed engineering review of 80 kms of road and bridge upgrading designs, interchanges;
  • Detailed highway and bridge design including toll plaza studies and layout design;
  • Construction supervision and contract administration.

Concessionaire Engineer and Advisor to Sonils for a US$ 95 million development within Port of Luanda for the upgrading of the port to support several deep sea offshore oil fields. Angola

Details of Services provided by SW included:

  • Design and construction supervision of a new 400m quay wall with 12.5m depth alongside, dredging of 2.4 million cum of material to form the berth approaches,
  • Provide fill material, removal of wrecks, reclamation to form 27 hactares of land and provision of road, drainage, water, power, sanitation and other infrastructure services.
  • Conventional concept design and supervision models and Design-Build models were used to execute the works by a resident engineering team based inside the client office.

Concesssionaire Engineer and Advisor MPDC for a US$ 30 million budget covering the Upgrading and Improvement of the Quays, Warehouses, Roads, Rail and Infrastructure Services (water, sewer, power, telecoms, security and fire protection) at Maputo Port, Mozambique

  • The civil works comprise of a mix of upgrading, rehabilitation and new construction in an existing port.
  • Conventional concept design and supervision models and Design-Build models were used to execute the works by a resident engineering team based inside the client office.
  • Works included environmental studies, dredging, rehabilitation of existing buildings, new buildings, Quays, Railway line, Roads, Water, Sewer, electrical and other utilities.
